The Bernese painter Emile Cardinaux was inspired by Ferdinand Hodler in creating this avant-garde poster showing the Matterhorn bathed in alpenglow,
a masterpiece of poster art. The simple design focuses on the essential so as not to impose upon its aesthetic value. With this revolutionary poster, Emile Cardinaux introduced a new style of design and a more dynamic form of communication in travel posters.
Lithographed at the Wolfensberger printing company, Cardinaux’ Zermatt poster is internationally one of the most highly praised works and an icon of poster advertising.
