Five original posters by the great master of colour, the famous Swiss painter Augusto Giacometti, will be up for bid at this year’s poster auction (see also lots 2011, 2032, 2134 and 2231).
Giacometti’s talents as a colourist are already evident in his early works, such as his 1918 poster “Graubünden – Das Sonnenland” (lot 2011). His deep interest in colour and abstract images comes across in his later poster works (Kunsthalle Bern 1924, Colonies des Vacances 1928, XVII Exposition Nationale des Beaux Arts Zurich 1928 and Die Schöne Schweiz 1930). Augusto Giacometti belonged to the famous dynasty of painters from Stampa, a village in the alpine Val Bregaglia.
After training at the Zurich School of Arts and Crafts, Giacometti studied in Paris and Florence before moving back to Zurich.
He was always open to avant-garde trends and made a considerable contribution to modern art.
A rarity.
