In the first third of the twentieth century, Burkhard Mangold had a significant impact on Swiss poster art, contributing about 150 works. Between 1900 and 1920 he worked at J.E. Wolfensberger in Zurich as a poster designer, artistic director and lithographer. He was also one of the first professional poster designers in Swiss travel advertising. Among his most important works is the outstanding series of five posters which together spell out the name of Davos. Each depicts a different winter activity: from sleigh rides to skiing, they show that there is something for everyone to enjoy in Davos. The complete series of five posters from 1907 is an absolute rarity and hardly ever to be found on the market.
