Born in Zurich in 1908, Walter Herdeg was a painter, publisher of the “Graphis” magazine and designer of numerous remarkable posters in the 1930s. In this photomontage from 1935, Herdeg shows a group of skiers beneath a clear blue sky and the smiling sun, which became the logo of the tourist resort of St. Moritz and was considered to be the first trademark in tourism advertising – it is still used to this day. Herdeg’s poster design from 1935 is considered to be one of the most impressive photomontages of the first half of the twentieth century and is a rarity for collectors and poster enthusiasts.
