The two works by Günter Brus featured in this auction form part of the ‘pictorial poems’ organised into extensive cycles, a genre that became firmly established within Brus’s oeuvre from 1974 onwards. In these works, there is no direct coherence between drawing and text; rather, these two levels are juxtaposed in a contrapuntal manner. As the drawing and text do not comment on or illustrate one another, a space is created in which a third element can emerge through the viewer’s associations.
